About Sofi

  • I’m a biomedical engineer who moved to Minnesota from Miami, FL to pursue my career, and I have been a resident of Robbinsdale since 2022. I rent an apartment in Ward 3 with my fiancé, Ian, and our two cats, Zaza and Traffic Conan; we love this town so much that we hope to buy a house here one day.

  • I work as a medical device research and development engineer where I use my STEM-background along with strong problem-solving and communication skills to improve patient quality of life. I completed a 3-year engineering leadership development program, and I have since continued to hone my leadership and organizational skills as the R&D lead for several projects and as the career pillar lead of my company’s Hispanic Organization for Leadership and Achievement (HOLA) chapter.

  • I volunteer at Simpson Housing Services to help provide shelter support services for the unhoused, and I participate in mutual aid efforts that began during Operation Metro Surge and continue on to this day. When I am not working to improve the quality of life of patients, I am collaborating with my neighbors in Robbinsdale and the surrounding Twin Cities Metro Area to build stronger community connections and serve those most in need of support.

  • Before I even decided to run for city council, I have and continue to closely follow and attend Robbinsdale City Hall meetings and Council Work Sessions to speak up and stay up to date on the issues that are affecting fellow residents the most.

Compassion is my driving value, and I seek to join the Robbinsdale City Council so I can apply my skills, experience, and commitment to community to serve the people of Robbinsdale and be a progressive voice for Ward 3.

Why Robbinsdale?

Robbinsdale first drew my fiancé and I in with its beautiful parks, charming downtown area, and its proximity to Minneapolis while still having a small-town feel. However, what made us decide to stay here is the community.

The residents are what makes Robbinsdale truly special. We show up to support our local businesses, our environment, and each other.

At the beginning of this year, Robbinsdale residents showed me what showing up for each other truly looks like when they organized food shelves, set up gas funds for observers and other helpers, delivered necessities to neighbors in need, and so much more. As a Cuban-American woman and someone who had not always been a Minnesotan, these actions spoke volumes to me of Robbinsdale residents’ commitment to serving their neighbors, and it inspired me to strive to give back.

The community I found here in Robbinsdale embraced me with open arms, and it would be an honor to serve as a council member for Ward 3 and continue to make sure everyone knows that they are welcome here- just as they did for me.
